Privacy Policy

The CurbParker app has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your location is used on your device. What does leave your phone is listed below, in full.
What we collect
Nothing about you. We don’t ask for a name, e-mail or account, and the app contains no advertising or analytics SDK. The only data our own server receives is described under “Free trial” and “City data downloads”.
This website
This website (curbparker.com), not the app, uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are read. Google receives your IP address, browser information and the pages you view, and sets cookies for this purpose — only if you click “Accept” on the cookie banner, as described in Google’s privacy policy. You can block it with your browser’s settings or an ad blocker without affecting the site.
Location
The app uses your device’s location to centre the map, find nearby spots, guide you, and remember where you parked. The matching of your position to parking rules happens on your device. We never receive your location. The “I parked here” position is stored only on your phone; you can clear it at any time, and uninstalling the app deletes it.
If you allow it, the app can also notice when your phone connects to or leaves a Bluetooth device (such as your car) to help remember where you parked. This is evaluated on your device; nothing about it is sent anywhere.
Third-party services the app talks to
Like any map app, CurbParker requests some things over the network. Those requests necessarily reveal your IP address and the content of the request to the service’s operator, which applies its own privacy policy. We send them no account identifier, because there is none.
| Service | Used for | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Google Maps SDK (Google) | The base map and its tiles | The map area being viewed, your IP address and device information, as described in Google’s privacy policy |
| Photon (komoot) and OpenStreetMap Nominatim | Address search | The text you type and the map area |
| OSRM / FOSSGIS | Driving and walking routes | The start and end coordinates of a route you ask for |
| OpenStreetMap Overpass | Street lines, only where a city’s data is not already on your phone | The map area being viewed |
| Android speech recognition (Google) | Voice search, only if you tap the microphone | Your voice recording, processed by the speech service on your device or by Google, per your Android settings |
| Google Play | Subscription billing | Handled entirely by Google; we only learn whether a subscription is active |
City data downloads
Montréal’s parking data ships inside the app. When you arrive in another supported city, the app downloads that city’s data once from curbparker.com. The request contains no location, no account and no device identifier. Like any web server, ours records standard access information (IP address, time, file requested, app version) in short-lived logs used to keep the service working and secure. The site and these downloads are served through Cloudflare, which acts as our content-delivery and security provider and therefore also processes those requests (including your IP address) under its own privacy policy.
Free trial and subscription
To make the 30-day free trial survive reinstalls and to prevent abuse, the app sends our server one anonymous, app-scoped device code generated by Android, and nothing else: no location, name, e-mail or anything typed in the app. The server stores that code and the trial start date. Payments are handled by Google Play; we never see your payment details.
Stored on your device only
Settings (filters, saved destination), the parked-car position and reminder, downloaded city data and cached map data. Uninstalling the app removes all of it.
Notifications
The “move my car” reminder is a local notification scheduled on your device. Nothing leaves your phone.
Children
CurbParker is a general-audience navigation utility. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Your choices
You can deny or revoke location, microphone, Bluetooth and notification permissions in Android settings; the app still works with the map and search. To delete everything stored on your device, uninstall the app. To have the trial device code removed from our server, write to us.
Changes
If a future version changes any of the above, this policy is updated before that version ships and the date above changes.
